A Shared Passion for Accessible Reading: Q&A with Love Large Print
4 November 2025
We recently welcomed Wendy, founder of the Love Large Print Project, and her colleague Jessica to the Ulverscroft Head Office, where they were shown around by our Operations Manager, Karolina.
During their visit, we caught up with Wendy to learn more about the project and her hopes for the future of large print.
Q: For those who might not have heard of it, what is the Love Large Print Project?
Wendy: It’s a campaign that raises awareness and improves access for people who rely on large print books. We want to make sure readers who are visually impaired are represented and included in the wider literary world. That means encouraging publishers, libraries and festivals to feature large print alongside other formats, not as an afterthought but as a vital part of accessibility.
Q: How did you first come across Ulverscroft?
Wendy: I actually grew up reading Ulverscroft books with my mum. Large print made such a difference for her, and it’s what first opened my eyes to how important accessible reading can be. To visit the team and see the work that goes into producing these editions felt really special.
Q: What kind of work are you doing at the moment?
Wendy: We’re taking large print out into the community by hosting events at literary festivals, schools and libraries, and giving a platform to visually impaired voices. Earlier this year, Love Large Print exhibited at the Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival from 21 May – 1 June 2025, and later took part in events at the Edinburgh Book Festival in August and Leicester Central Library. These have been brilliant opportunities to start important conversations about inclusion and accessibility in reading.
Q: How do you see the project growing in the future?
Wendy: Collaboration is key. We’re working with partners across the UK to keep large print visible and valued, and we’re developing mentoring and school programmes to support emerging writers and artists. Ultimately, it’s about inclusion, ensuring that everyone can access and enjoy books in the way that suits them best.
It was wonderful to see both teams share their passion for accessibility and inclusion, and to hear how Love Large Print is working to make reading more representative for everyone.
“It was inspiring to hear about Wendy and Jessica’s work and to see how closely our aims align,” said Michele Petty, Managing Director. “We’re both passionate about ensuring that every reader can access and enjoy stories in the format that suits them best.”
We look forward to continuing the conversation and exploring how we can collaborate in the future.
